Jack at the Winter Olympics!!

Jack F., a student in 2B, recently attended the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, with his grandmother.

Here are some excerpts from Jack's travel journal!

We went in a limo. It was awesome. Then we went to Nonni's friend's house. We saw a hockey match between Switzerland and USA. The score as 1-3 and USA won! We went on the sky train. It was awesome!! We went skating and looked at pins. I loved the pins! We saw speed skating. Canada was in first place for the gold and Netherlands was in 2nd and 3rd places. It was awesome! We saw curling. It was France vs. USA. USA won! There were 3 more games. One of the games was Canada vs. Denmark. Canada won! I got an Olympic mascot named Sunni. I saw a gold bar and went to a dolphin show. We saw manatees, dolphins, and otters. I saw Miga, another Olympic mascot, and I saw the Olympic cauldron.

Abraham Lincoln - Our 16th President

Mr. Lincoln's Boys is one of the stories we read which helped us think about the fun times that the Lincoln boys had in the White House!

What if Abe Lincoln were to visit the United States today? How has the world changed since he was president in 1861-1865? What would you tell Mr. Lincoln about the world of 2010? What new inventions do we have? Do you think our world of 2010 is better or worse?

Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater tells the unusual story of a man who dreams big about exploring the North and South Poles! In this book he is surprised to find a penguin delivered to his door one day and sets about making room for this penguin in his family's home. If you could adopt any odd pet, what would it be? How would you take care of this strange animal? What would you feed him ? What would it be like to own a _______?? Think about it and post your thoughts on our first blog post for the 2B Flying Pigs Blog in 2010!
